Getting started
How do I make myself admin on my V Rising server?
On this page
Put your SteamID in adminlist.txt, in your server’s Settings folder. Then switch on V Rising’s console, open it while you’re on the server and type adminauth. Stunlock says the list can be changed without restarting the server.
Find your SteamID
V Rising’s admin list goes by SteamID, the long number Steam gives your account. Stunlock’s support site says to look at the top of the Account Details page in the Steam app. It’s a 17-digit number that starts 7656.
Every admin needs their own SteamID on the list, so ask your co-admins for theirs.
Add yourself to adminlist.txt
Download a backup from your Game Panel first, then:
- Open your Game Panel’s file manager and go to the
Settingsfolder. It sits in your server’s data folder, beside theSavesfolder. - Open
adminlist.txt. - Add your SteamID on a line of its own, with nothing else on the line. Every other admin gets a line of their own.
- Save the file.

Log in from the console
- In V Rising, go to Options, then General, then Interface, and switch on Console Enabled.
- Join your server.
- Press the key below Esc to open the console. Stunlock’s support site says it’s
§or`depending on your keyboard. On most UK keyboards it’s the key to the left of 1. - Type
adminauthand press Enter.
The admin commands below now work for you.
The admin commands
Type list in the console to see every command the server has. The ones you’ll use most:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
kick |
Throws a player off the server. |
bancharacter |
Bans a player, going by their character’s name. |
banuser |
Bans a player’s account. |
banned |
Lists everyone who’s banned. |
unban |
Lifts a ban. |
BanCharacterTemp <character name> <number> <unit> |
Bans a character for a set time, such as BanCharacterTemp Dracula 2 Hours. |
BanUserTemp <player ID> <number> <unit> |
The same, going by the player’s ID. |
SetPlayerMuted <Voice/Chat/Both> <character name> <0/1> |
Mutes a player in voice, text chat or both. 1 mutes, 0 unmutes. |
SetPlayerMutedById <Voice/Chat/Both> <player ID> <0/1> |
The same, going by the player’s ID. |
Bans you make in the console are written to banlist.txt, in the same Settings folder, for you. You can also add a SteamID to that file yourself, one per line.
When the server’s full
Admins can still get in when the server is full, up to the number set by MaxConnectedAdmins in ServerHostSettings.json. That’s handy when you need to deal with someone on a busy night.
Warning
Only make admins of people you trust. Admins can kick and ban anyone, and V Rising’s admin commands include one that unlocks all of a player’s progress in one go.
If an admin, or anyone else, can’t get onto the server at all, see why your friends can’t find or join it.
